Now that the Team Unicorn 3 Person No Tap Tournament is complete for the 2025 year, I would like to share some examples of what the money from TriHealth Cancer Institute Patients Assistance Fund goes to.

Patient Story 1

A head and neck cancer patient with recurrence was evaluated at our Lymphedema Clinic.

The therapist advised her to get a Facial decompression bandage and bed wedge for elevation (helps with breathing and to keep her from aspirating and possibly dying.)  The patient was not able to afford these items and although she carries Medicaid through Molina Insurance, they would not cover these items. Making the situation even more complicated is that she is on and off homeless, finding shelter where she can which also causes significant depression and anxiety.  We were able to purchase both of these much needed items with these funds as well as help with medication.  The patient is very grateful and with what little she has she takes her bandage and wedge with her. She is doing as well as can be expected and we continue the journey with her.

Patient Story 2

A number of things can cause secondary diabetes in cancer patients, including steroids, the surgical removal of part of the pancreas, and certain chemotherapy drugs and targeted therapy treatments. It can also be caused by diet, stress, inflammation or even uncontrolled pain.

This breast cancer patient is one of those patients.  Developing type 2 diabetes added additional struggles to her health including severe neuropathy.  The physical therapist recommended a folding pedal exercise bike which costs very little, but she was not able to afford so we were able to purchase it for her.  We were also able to help pay her Duke Bill avoiding being shut off in what was considered dangerous heat levels.  We were also able to help her with a Kroger Gift card for food and Uber transport to and from appts.  She is extremely grateful and is recovering.

Patient Story 3

A patient who manages ongoing lung cancer greatly benefited from funds to assist with food and gas to get to and from treatment. Patient works full time, but doesn’t get paid when she misses work for treatment; which causes her finances to become overwhelming at times. She has expressed the positive impact that the financial assistance has provided.

With the money from your entry, you unknowingly help someone who needs it the most.

Thank you isn't enough to Team Unicorn for your support in making a difference in people's life.

Luke 10:36-37

"So which of these three do you think was neighbor to him who fell among the thieves?”

And he said, “He who showed mercy on him.” Then Jesus said to him, “Go and do likewise.”
